Home Automation Project Report

The main objective of this project is to develop a home automation system using an Arduino board with Bluetooth being remotely controlled by any Android OS smart phone. As technology is advancing so houses are also getting smarter. Modern houses are gradually shifting from conventional switches to centralized control system, involving remote controlled switches. Presently, conventional wall switches located in different parts of the house make it difficult for the user to go near them to operate. Even more it becomes more difficult for the elderly or physically handicapped people to so. Remote controlled home automation system provides a most modern solution with smart phones. In order to achieve this, a Bluetooth module is interfaced to the Arduino board at the receiver end while on the transmitted end, A GUI application on the cell phone sends ON/OFF commands to the receiver where loads are connected. By touching the specified location on the GUI, the loads can be turned ON/OFF remotely through this technology.

The main objective of this article is to develop a Home Automation System using Android mobile with Bluetooth Module. Nowadays people are expecting to control the home appliances through remote control. This expectation is fulfilled by our advanced technology. In this article we are using Bluetooth and Android OS to develop a smart home. Modern Houses are expected to have centralized control system, instead of conventional switches which are fitted on walls. If the user wants to control the appliances, they have to move near the wall and control the switches. This method is inconvenient for the elderly and disabled people. So their difficulty to operate the appliances can be supported by the proposed home automation system which has a remote module to control the appliances. Remote controlled home automation system fulfills the needs of the people. Remote control operation is achieved by a smart phone or Tablet which is supported by Android OS. In the smart phone Android App with Bluetooth acts as a transmitter, which sends commands to the receiver Bluetooth module. In this article ARDUINO UNO controller board which contains an Atmega328p IC is used. The loads are interfaced to the Arduino controller using electromagnetic Relays.

Home automation system is a house or living environment that implants the technology to allow devices and systems to be restrained automatically. Now a days the smart phones and tablets are becoming powerful and with new and useful characteristics, and better features. Smartphone affordability increases every year and they have begun to play important roles in our day to day life due to its size and portability. Controlling home appliances using an Android cell phone gives user the ability to control the home appliances anywhere, anytime in their home and saves the time spent discovering for the controlled of home automation systems since the user's phone is often kept close at hand. This project presents the design and execution of a low cost prototype of Bluetooth based home automation system using Android cell phone. Home automation involves introducing a degree of computerized or automatic control to certain electrical and electronic systems in a building. A hardware system is installed to monitor and control the various appliances. The system would control the appliances based on its configuration. For example, it could automatically turn on the lights at a specified time in the evening, or it could measure the ambient light using a hardware sensor and turn on the lights when it grows dark. For example, one could turn on the air conditioning from the office, before leaving for home. This project demonstrates a simple home automation system that allows the user to control it with a wireless device such as a Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. The system allows the user to control each of the lights and fans individually. It can automatically turn off the main lights and turn on a night lamp at a specified time. By measuring the signal strength, it can detect when the user enters a room and automatically turn on the light and fans, and then automatically turn them off when the user leaves the room.
