Process to Get Passport In Nepal

1. First of all, download the MRP (machine-readable passport) application form from the website of the Department of Passport.

2. Next, use the Adobe Acrobat software on your computer to open the application form. You cannot fill out the form using internet browsers like Google Chrome. Internet cafes and other places with computers can help fill out the form for you.

3. Fill out your form thoroughly. Do not put any fake information on your form because this is your legal document.

4. Print your passport form with a copy of your citizenship and stick the passport size pictures on the application. Read your form properly.

5. Go to your district headquarter to submit your form

6. After submission, the officer will help you in the next process.

7. Attach a bank voucher with your form

Note:

If you are taking passport from your own district and willing to wait, the fee will be rs. 5000/-
ETA: 40 – 45 days
If you are taking passport from the capital, the fee will be rs. 10000/-
ETA: 7-10 days

8. Attach your copy of citizenship, bank voucher and passport application and submit.

Alternative Fast Method

If you are in a hurry and do not want to wait for 15 to 45 days, you can also apply through fast-track service. After filling up your MRP application form properly you will have to follow the steps below.

1. Get a verification letter from the concerned official from your District Administration Office

2. Visit the Department of Passport in Tripureshwor, Kathmandu with all important documents such as verification letter, original citizenship certificate and its copies.

3. You must pay Rs 15,000 if you want to get your passport the same day. The fees are Rs 12,000 and Rs 10,000 if you wait until the following day or the day following two days, respectively.

Passport Guidelines

1., Everyone must come in person and submit their own passport form.

2. When applying for a minor, the child must accompany their parents or guardians. The form should also include the applicant’s minor identity card issued by their respective DAO, and the original copy and photocopies of the applicant’s mother or father’s citizenship certificate.

3. If someone else is chosen as the guardian, that person should be there along with the minor and have the necessary paperwork such as a copy of their citizenship certificate and their original citizenship certificate. Also, a document from the local government proving the minor’s relationship with the guardian is required.
